This friendly club started on 11 April 1992. We currently have some 50 members and we meet on the second Saturday of the month, from September to May inclusive, at St Paul's Methodist Church, Wakefield Road, Dalton, Huddersfield, HD5 8DE from 10 am to 12.30 pm.
See https://www.huddersfieldmethodists.org.uk/dalton-st-pauls.html for a map.
We have a speaker or a demonstration and sometimes we have a practical session. These meetings are free to members.
In addition, the club organises and runs weekly practical woodcarving classes at 2 venues -
The Brooksbank School, Victoria Road, Elland, HX5 0QG
and
Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, 154 Northgate, Wakefield, WF1 3QX
These meetings take place on Mondays from 7pm - 9pm during school term times in the woodwork rooms of the above schools. One of the members acts as the tutor and everyone helps each other. Tools are also available for loan. If you are a beginner or an experienced carver you will be made most welcome. To receive more information, use the contact details.
In June 2009, the club was pleased to receive the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service for all the panels that had been made and presented to local hospices. See the panels section of this website for more details.
The fees for membership of the club as of 2026 are £35 a year and the membership year runs from May to April each year. If you attend one of the carving classes, additional fees are payable to cover the costs of hiring the room. These fees are payable on a termly basis.
