The initial meeting between the Hospice management and the carvers from the WRWA, to discuss the requirements of the project.
The Beginning
Once an understanding was achieved, the members of the WRWA started to accumulate images and ideas.

The scale, size and balance of each image was carefully considered.

Once a workable layout was achieved, a scale representation of the proposed panel was offered up against the intended location that will be the panel's final resting place.
Once approved the chosen images, along with illustrations and suitable slabs of timber were allocated to the members of the WRWA.
Progress.
After several weeks of carving the members of the WRWA came together to check that the work was progressing according to plan, and that the panel would be completed in time for the official opening date of the Hospice.
As a conservative estimate, we are sure that just over 4000 hours went into completing the panel, with many more hours spent on the construction of the frame. The base of which held the electronics, sound cards and buttons that activated the movement and sound of the eight automated carvings.
Viewing.
As with several of the WRWA Panels the Forget me Not Panel was transported to three venue before delivery to the Hospice with the intentions of raising finance to aid the Hospice. This was done by the sale of booklets with descriptions of individual carvings and carvers.
The Forget me Not Panel formed the central display at the WRWA stand at the North of England Woodworking Show. Harrogate
Delivery. The panel was delivered to the Hospice by a group of WRWA member several days before the official opening on the 21st of June 20113.

Because the automated carvings were electrically powered the panel was connected to the mains electricity.

The panel is situated down the main corridor just through from the main reception area. The panel was fitted with it's own lighting

The Formal opening was undertaken on the 21st June 2013. HRH Princess Beatrice of York accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Dr Ingrid Roscoe.

The Formal Opening was not only about the Hospice but also highlighted the WRWA Panel and a sculpture that stood out in the gardens carved by Pat Walls.

The Panel.
After raising tens of thousands of pounds by the WRWA with the Armouries Panels Booklets, the money was donated to the Forget me Not Hospice. Huddersfield. The Hospice was so delighted with the donation and the skill and enthusiasm of the WRWA they asked if it was possible to have their very own Panel to display in the entrance to the Hospice.
After a shaky start with the initial ideas for this panel, the design team asked for clarification for the function of the Hospice.

' To Tender care from Birth to Adulthood ' It was felt that the Forget me Not Children's Hospice Panel needed to reflect the stories, memories, and activities of young people from Infant to Adult. The development of the Panel therefore required to embrace the learning through Fairy Stories, Nursery Rhymes, Games and Pets etc.

During the discussion about the images required, a suggestion was mane that ir several carvings were animated the panel would be brought to life and give added interest for the children. These were the carvings that were chosen. Stephenson's Rocket. Hickory Dicory Dock. Humpty Dumpty. The Moon landing. Woodpecker. Windy Millar. Crocodile and Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Sound cards were added to accentuate the themes of the automated carvings. Each automated carving having its own activation button at the base of the frame.

To help the eight individual carvers that were carving an automated piece, a scale model was made to show how the mechanisms worked along side the individual moving parts.

Hickory Dickory Dock.
As the cat watches the mouse run down the clock his tail will wag at intermittent intervals. As the pendulum swings it catches the side of the clock producing a ticking sound. In the actual panel the dial is a proper timepiece.

Mechanism.
The pulley at the bottom is attached to the input handle. It is four times smaller than the middle pulley, this slows down the speed. The top pulley has three pins that move the pendulum and the cat's tail.

Three Billy Goats Gruff.

The old children's story of three goats, and a Troll that lives under the Bridge. The large goat butts his head and the Troll swings his club.Whilst baby goat watches on.

Mechanism.
The small lower pulley drives the upper pulley and reduces the speed. On the large pulley is a pin that activates free swinging weighted pendulums. One for the butting head and one for the swinging arm.

Windy Miller.
One of the children's favourite characters. As the handle is turned the sails go round and intermittently Windy will give a wave. Consideration was shown to the rotation as 90% of windmills rotate anti-clockwise

Mechanism.
The lower pulley is the drive, the upper pulley rotates the sails. The centre is an idler to help with the crossed belt. This changes the rotation to anti-clockwise. A peg on the upper pulley activates the pendulum supporting Windy's arm.

Mechanism.
An intricate two layers of moving parts, one hidden behind the astronaut allows the Earth to orbit, unseen for most of it revolution. This same mechanism moves the radar dish.
